Selection Policy
From u8 to u11 we run 2 teams per age group:
All age group players train together, the idea of the two team approach is simply to allow the Age Group Manager to give everyone the right level of challenge at the right time . Everyone develops at their own pace, some require experience and confidence-building, others are ready for a sterner test of their skills. Most benefit from the different approaches at different points in the season or within their career at the Avorians. Its never about labels, it's all about giving children appropriate opportunities to play the game.
Parent Helpers
We are always on the lookout for parent helpers. If you think you might be able to help us on a regular basis, either with Friday night sessions or on match days please contact the Academy Director or speak to the relevant age group manager.
Equipment & Clothing
Ideally we would like all Academy members to own their own bat, box and helmet; however we do have a small supply of helmets and bats. There are a number of good cricket equipment shops in the area. We recommend Romida and Fordham Sports. For training sessions, a white tee-shirt; tracksuit bottoms or shorts and sturdy trainers are ideal. For matchday and training clothing, please visit our club shop.
Although not compulsory, when representing the club in a League fixture, we would like all players to wear Avorians branded clothing, if possible.
Events
We hold an Academy Awards night in late-August or early-September. Other Academy events include a spectacular Firework Night which is fast becoming the talk of Cobham, with well over 1000 people attending.
The last few years have also seen the Academy going on tour to the New Forest.
Adversity
Should any family feel that they are not in a position to pay the full fees on an ongoing basis, or be in a situation where there is a short term financial problem, then we urge them to contact, on a confidential basis, either the Academy Director or the Club Welfare Officer and an individual arrangement can be discussed.
Money will never be a barrier to your child learning cricket at the Cobham Avorians.
Questions
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Academy Director by email.
