One Win Each for the Second Occassion

The Cavaliers started the new year with a further two friendlies against The Change Foundation (TCF) in Wallington, the previous matches at the end of 2023, ending one a piece. The start of the first match was slightly delayed due to heavy traffic conditions delaying a number of the Cavaliers players as they fought their way through major roadworks and a serious crash on the M25.
In the first match, TCF decided to bat first, and the Cavaliers quickly found themselves on the back foot. Wickets were extremely hard to come by and only Jane C (2 for 12) made any significant inroads as the TCF amassed 140 for 4 off their allotted 16 overs. In response Kevin D (16) and Colin M (19) got the Cavaliers response off to a steady start. However tight bowling, the ever-increasing run rate and the loss of too many wickets meant that the Cavaliers run chase never really challenged the TCF’s formidable total and ended on 79 for 12.
Having reviewed their failings in the first match, a much-improved Cavaliers batting performance saw them reach 94 for 4 off their 16 overs, led once again by Colin M (15) and Kevin D (26). Tight bowling, led by Kevin D (2 for 19) and Michael R (2 for 2) along with a great fielding performance saw the Cavaliers restrict TCF to 95 for 9, a win by 24 runs. So once again honours were shared.
The Cavaliers now prepare themselves for a double headed friendly away at the current Surrey Walking Cricket champions, the Epsom Thoroughbreds and a round robin tournament with TCF and Epsom before returning to Lord’s for a Walking Cricket festival in mid-March.
