5th September 2006 - Surrey Champions!
Firstly can I wrap up a bit of housekeeping. The September
Committee Meeting has been scheduled for 7.30pm on Thursday 14th
of this month at the clubhouse. Will everyone who should be there
please attend. Now back to the important bit.........
What a season! The 1's made it count when they had
to and secured promotion back to the Premiership, the 2's romped
home at the top of the third division with a margin of 37 points,
the Sunday team played far more matches than usual, the Colts Academy
went from strength to strength and we got draught Stella at the club!
Subject to me still being here after
the 'Waldorf and Stadler' caption (joke, guys, joke), I look forward
with relish to 2007 - not forgetting the Quiz, Fireworks Night and
all other events scheduled before Christmas.
This has truly been a truly magnificent season for
the A's! The role of honour above falls short of all the other unsung
heroes (who know who they are) that sponsor the club, come from lands
afar to play/support, come from counties afar to play/support, drive
down the A3, keep the ground to county standards (and tell everyone),
organise the colts, coach the colts, bring the colts along and support
the bar, manage the records, protect the welfare, keep the score,
update the stats, organise and play in the Sunday games (if I had
a picture you'd be up there guys), take the photos, write the match
reports and send them off to the press on Monday mornings, organise
and pay for events out of their own pockets, drop 40 pounds to get
lean and fit, donate prizes to the auctions, bid for their own donations.....
Hi Cavey!

...... feed the teams, manage the accounts, keep the
minutes, manage the clubhouse, organise the fixtures, make the teas,
serve the drinks, stock the bar, hoover the club, chase the players,
collect the lobsters....Hi Lobsters!

.... rent the marquees, buy the port,
drink the port....... Hi Matt!

..... collect the leaves, paint the club, take those
b***dy wheels of the covers only to put them back on 3 months later,
buy 200 club tickets, let off the fireworks, take deliveries, attend
off season committee meetings in arctic conditions.......
In short, everyone who makes the club the success it
is today!
Finally a big thank you should be made to all the partners
and families who can't work out why a game of cricket lasts from
midday until midnight.... and why it has to be every Saturday/Sunday
from frost-up to frost-down. To this final group of supporters, we
send the biggest thanks.
To everyone else that I may have seemed to forget,
I didn't....it's just that it's midnight now and I must close.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Fireworks
night (date to be announced, so keep reading the updates) and here's
to a great 2007!
Got to dash now and start preparing my defence for
when I'm hauled up in front to El Presidente and Chairman on the
14th.
Well done everyone!
