South African Wine and Beer Tasting Evening
Friday 26th November 2010
"Finding New World Classics in Old World Legends" - by Ross
Richardson, MD - capewineandfood
I have found that a lot of wine drinkers have had very little
exposure to quality South African wines. So, for this tasting I
will give people a familiar frame of reference (French and
Portuguese) to which they can relate my wines, as most wine
drinkers would have tried various wines across French regions and
styles, and may have some sort of knowledge about them.
Essentially this will be a tutored tasting of 6 South African
wines which all have echoes of the “Old World” in them.
Guests will learn how to deconstruct a wine and pick scents and
flavours as well.
Champagne – represented by a traditionally made South
African Sparkling Wine from traditional Champagne grapes
Sancerre / Tourraine styled Sauvignon Blanc – represented
by a sleek, cool climate SA Sauvignon Blanc
Chablis – represented by an unoaked Chardonnay
Bordeaux – represented by a Cabernet / Merlot styled red
blend
Chateuneuf du Pape – represented by a Shiraz based
blend
A Dessert Wine or Ruby Port – a South African version of
either of these.
The tasting will arranged around a traditional Cape Malay Curry.
The curry, known as “Bobotie", is baked and served with
yellow rice (when cooked, it looks a bit like Lasagne).
Numbers are strictly limited to 60 so please contact Mark
Barrow to book your place. Tickets £12.00.
